I wanted to make a comment today directed specifically at all the hipster a-holes I keep running across who want to extol all the coolness that is Brooklyn.
This is done primarily because the aforementioned doofus a-holes have taken up residence there, arriving in the NYC metro area from some other place or being a recent Manhattan refugee and wanting to assign themselves some kind of status to assuage the fact they are living in one of the boroughs.
NEWSFLASH - I remember a phrase we applied to everyone from the outer boroughs that is still valid today. No matter how cool you imagine yourself to be be, you will ever be:
Having assigned you your true derogatory designation comes another startling revelation that just confirms my own experience of dealing with any of these Brooklyn DAs. I call them that because for as much as they say they embrace Brooklyn the truth of the matter is that their experience of the borough is in and around a few select yuppie enclaves. You live in the most racially segregated borough of the city!
The New York City area's black-white dissimilarity score is 79.1, according to a study of 2010 Census data by professors John Logan and Brian Stults of Brown and Florida State University. A score above 60 on the dissimilarity index is considered very high segregation.
The red dots show white people, blue is black, orange is Hispanic, green is Asian, and yellow is other, according to maps of 2010 Census data by Eric Fischer.
